First of many

After weeks and weeks of Laura saying that Harrison was teething - and Craig doubting her - Harrison had his first tooth pop out last week, and a second one broke through this weekend. If you look closely you can see it on this photo (you'll probably have to click on it to enlarge it). Getting a picture of the tooth was difficult, but we finally got a picture when Harrison threw a fit while burping.

Much like a million other things with Harrison, teething has been rather painless. It doesn't seem to bother him at all, but we're not expecting that to continue through the whole process.

Basically, we still have a happy kid, who sleeps a lot and cries very little. He's starting to pet Otis, which is cute, but Laura caught him putting his hand in Otis's mouth one day. Even with a mild mannered dog like Otis, that's likely not a good idea.

Harrison is also still growing like mad. At five months, Harrison is now in 12 month old clothes. All our 12 month pajamas were summer variety, so we had to go seek out winter pj's for Harrison. Thanks to a clearance rack, Harrison is rocking the Santa pj's in March, but who cares?

Harrison is in between Dr. appointments now, so we got curious and took out a tape measure to see how long he is. He measured at 28 inches, which means he's got about an inch of growth before we have to move him into a bigger car seat. Our Dr. told us most kids stay in their first car seat for a whole year. Obviously, this is not going to be the case with Harrison.

When do you introduce barley soda?

There really seems to be something new with Harrison every day as of late. The above picture really has nothing to do with his new tricks, but it's cute, so I started the post off with it. Harrison loves grabbing things, especially the interior of people's mouths.

We've long suspected we would have a thumb sucker on our hands and Harrison confirmed that suspicion last weekend. We were feeding him his rice cereal and instead of inserting his whole hand into his mouth, Harrison placed just his thumb in. He sat there merrily sucking away at it until we pulled it out to continue his feeding.

Harrison also played with his feet for the first time this morning. While Craig was changing his nasty morning diaper, he saw Harrison grab his foot, which Harrison attempted to do over and over again while Craig was trying to put a clean diaper on.

Harrison also likes to grab at Craig's beer, shown above. Craig politely reminds Harrison that the beer is "Daddy's formula," and Harrison can have some when he's older. Craig distinctly remembers being very young (5-6) and at a party with his parents. He asked his mom for a soda and was harshly denied. Thinking on his feet, Craig asked his mom if he could have a beer instead. Mom answered affirmatively, so Craig called her bluff and went and got one from the keg (Craig was filling beer glasses from the keg at a very young age - pictorial evidence below). One sip sufficed for Craig and he rarely touched a beer after that for the next decade or so. Craig may - or may not - try this same approach with Harrison.

On a roll

Instead of taking Harrison in for some professional photos, Craig borrowed a nice SLR camera and did it himself. While the photos aren't quite professional quality, we're pleased with the outcome. Here's a couple more of Harrison.

In other Harrison news, he's now rolling over from his stomach to his back. He fought that for a long time, but once he started doing it he's done it repeatedly and with ease.
